 Microscope ; Fifth grade science

During the 7th week of homeschool, the days were rainy and dark. I looked out the window as I tapped on the desk with my pencil. It gave me a memory of when I was in 5th grade. It was a rainy day when my science class was learning about microscopes. “Remember, scientists use these special... bla bla bla” is what I listened to. I didn’t pay attention at all. But now, I missed learning at school and I wish I was more focused on doing my work. Homeschool however, is still really fun if you make your own rules and lessons.

As I said, when I was in fifth grade, we learned about parts of the microscope during science class. I gotta admit, I wasn't really interested into that topic at first, but I became fascinated when we actually got to use them. What really pissed me off, was the memorizing part. The part were you had to know every single part of the microscope and study it for a test. Luckily, it was easier than I thought and I figured what an eyepiece was in 2 seconds. Here are some information I remember.

What is a microscope?

A microscope is an instrument used for viewing small objects, like cells, for example. The object can be zoomed in more than 100 times.

All the parts of a microscope:

Eyepiece: The place were you put your eye
Nosepiece: A part that rotates the objective
Objective: Magnifying glass that can zoom in up to 10 to 40
Body tube: A tube that connects the Eyepiece and nosepiece.
Arm: Supports the upper microscope (Eyepiece, Nosepiece, Objective, Body tube)
Stage: Area where sample is placed
Clips: Clips on the stage that support the samples
Course Adjustments: Knob that adjusts the upper microscope
Fine Adjustments: Knob that adjusts the stage
Diaphragm: Limits the light
Light source: Projects light to stage
Base: Supports the entire microscope
Coarse adjustment: Located on the arm of the microscope in order to move the stage up and dowm.
Fine adjustment: It allows to bring the specimen into sharp focus.
