Jones Beach; Homeschool field trip

 Jones Beach; Homeschool field trip

During the sixth week of homeschool, we decided to go on our second field trip to Jones Beach. And of course, we had to wear a mask. I wasn’t really into that idea at first. “It’s outside anyways” I reminded my mom. “Yes I know,” she replied. “But you know, just in case. And also it will block the wind and sand from going on your face.” I shoved myself into the car, still unsatisfied but obeyed the commands to I was given.
When we arrived, I felt the salty air, even though I had my mask on. Then I heard my mom gasp as she pointed at the beach. It was completely isolated. There was not even a single person enjoying the ocean. We only saw a few elderly eating at a boardwalk. “Should we go back home?” she asked in a worried and serious tone. “No” I insisted. “We’re already here and I don’t see why it will be so dangerous.” I added. With a bit a faith, she followed as I marched through the dusty sand. It felt real  good, since we haven’t been out for a long time as well. After taking a few pictures, we reached down to the ocean. (aka the land of seagulls) The waves crashed down to shore and returned back into the water. It was fun to see the white birds gracefully swim in the deep Atlantic, unbothered by the waves. Sometimes, I wondered how the world was still going on as usual, even thought many things have changed. Soon, I realized that I would have been eating sand if I didn’t wear a mask. The heavy wind blew with all it’s might, spreading the powdery dust everywhere, as if we were going to get pushed into the ocean. But the view was beautiful and the pictures turned out to look fabulous.  “It looks like we’re in some kind of desert or something” my mom said, laughing as she scrolled down through her phone. I laughed with agreement. On our way back home, I remembered when I went to Jones Beach when I was in third grade for a school field trip. “Those days were fun” I told myself. But then I reminded myself that those moments were only a small part of my whole life. There would be much more days like that soon or maybe even better. I cheered myself up by scrolling through the pictures we took. Homeschool is very interesting. Anyways, it was a very fun field trip.

What is Jones Beach?
Jones beach is located at the south shore of Long Island, New York and was established as a state park in 1929. The beach is almost 7 miles long and gets over 6 million visits each summer.
Jones beach hosts many fun things, including jet shows and fireworks shows during the summer. Jones beach has many sections to visit, like marshes, boardwalks, and bays. They also have playgrounds and places to eat. I gotta be honest here, the food wasn’t really the best. In fact there barely is any food and the only thing you can eat is a cup of slushees.  You can also find many living (or dead) creatures chilling by the ocean bay. Sometimes, if you get lucky, you can find hermit crabs lying flat in the squishy sand. Diverse seashells and rocks can be found at every corner of the beach. Sadly, pets aren’t allowed in the area but you can bring home a new friend rock and it’s best friend shell.
